"I just wanted to thank you again for the conference this summer. Since then, I have experienced some unexpected road bumps to getting my school as on board as I had thought they would be. However, because of my (and the teachers who were also there with me) specific knowledge and language that we gained from the EIEJ conference, we have already started to see some of that resistance fade. Additionally, I specifically have been targeted by a set of parents for asking pronouns, having a lot of inclusion and pride things displayed in my classroom, and for talking about LGBTQIA+ Egyptian Gods as some of our Unit 1 fun facts. Your conference has helped me feel empowered and equipped to stand my ground and defend my classroom and my space as a place where my students feel safe and accepted. Your conference also helped me to have Colorado HB19-1192 as well as other such protections fresh in my brain to help my Admin respond to these parents. Thank you so much for helping me to be able to create a safe space for my students." |
